This image shows farming areas of the Texas high plains south of Amarillo.
The farms in this region rely on water pumped from the Ogallala aquifer to
irrigate crops. When viewed from afar, this image looks like a chaotic jumble
of colored circles and wedges, but, when viewed more closely, the image shows
its true nature as crops and fields in various stages of irrigation.
The area covered by this image is approximately 11x21 miles. A
full-resolution crop of the image file is available
here that shows the detail present in
the full image print. A smaller portion cut from this image is also available
to emphasize the shapes and colors produced by the irrigation system in
this region. |
