These elegant, very tall birds can be seen in winter along the Texas gulf coast. Their rust-colored feathers are the result of foraging in iron-rich mud. This Crane was feeding with her mate just before sunset on a golf course and left a divot while digging for insects, apparently ignoring the USGA rule about replacing all divots.
