In the Deep Glens, Grassy Waters Preserve, West Palm Beach, Florida
This Great Egret landed next to a large cypress tree in the marsh pond. As she started to walk
into the pond to hunt, she did not want to get her wing feathers wet so she lifted them slightly,
making her look more like a prima ballerina. The egret and marsh seem well described by the last
sentence of The Road by Cormac McCarthy: In the deep glens where they lived all
things were older than man and they hummed of mystery.
