Barred Owl female, Spring Creek, Richardson/Garland, Texas
This is the fourth year I have seen and photographed this owl. Barred Owls prefer to perch on lower
branches of trees that provide clear sight lines to the ground for hunting. During the day they tend
to roost on higher branches where they can rest undisturbed by mockingbirds and blue jays. Their
feather pattern blends well with oak trees which gives them excellent camouflage.
